  • WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

There is certainly not one single answer to this! I have been obsessed with mermaids and drawing since I was 3 years old, so this is where my passion for art started and my fascination with mermaids as well that has never stopped. I love all things fantasy - mythical creatures especially - so this plays a large role in my art. I also love and am influenced by older Victorian and turn of the century children’s book illustrations with animal characters.

I have also been interested in sea creatures for a long time and with my scuba license my interest in them has only increased being able to view all kinds of creatures up close. As for the concentration of bunnies in my earlier work, I owned my first rabbit when I started learning watercolors so that played a huge influence and continues to - they have such an innocent nature that I try to bring out with my paintings. I am also a lover of mountains and forests and the creatures that make their homes here, so this is a large influence in my works as well.

  • WHAT MATERIALS DO YOU USE?

The types of watercolor paints I typically use are Winsor & Newton for more natural tones, Dr. PH Martin concentrated watercolors for vivid high impact colors, and Faber-Castell watercolor pencils for use in both painting and outlining my artwork. For brushes I use Grumbacher rounds and Winsor & Newton Sceptre line. For linework I use Micron black pens , white and silver gel pens, and the Faber-Castell watercolor pencils. I paint most of my watercolor creations on Strathmore and Arches 140 lb cold press watercolor paper.
